Don’t forget the high spots when bringing the merriment of the season into your décor!  Above cabinets, on a high ledge, above a bookcase or armoire are commonly overlooked when decorating your home, especially for the Holidays.  Using great textures, colors, and different shapes and heights can add visual interest to your room.  

Do collections of certain items, or even some of your collectibles.  I like to enhance what’s already there without changing, but just repeating the holiday theme chosen.  Adding touches of whimsy, glitter and glitz, or natural accents like wood or branches are easy elements to bring in.

If you are like most people, the fireplace mantle is considered the “heart of the home”; the focal point of the room that you dressed to reflect your homes décor and your personal taste.  And with so much emphasis put on the mantel décor and the time spent searching for the perfect accents, when it comes time to decorate for the holidays I like to add festive elements to my mantle rather than putting away what reflects my personality year around.

During the holidays the mantle gets extra attention with the stockings, garlands and candlelight, so make it an eye-catching focal point, if you will… the centerpiece of the season! (more…)

During the 2008 fall Holiday Open House, Sandstone for the first time featured walk through tours of their “Garden Cottage”. 

The cottage serves as a show case for innovative applications of timeless style and spacious casual elegance, in only a 1,200 square foot floor plan. 

During the four-day open house, hundreds of anxious eyes were shuttled from the showroom to the cottage for the leisurely tour.  Many ladies returned the next day with their husbands to share the concepts, vision, and experience. 

With the overwhelming response from the 2008 fall Garden Cottage tour, Sandstone has continued the tours on a seasonal basis. 

I know that a lot of our customers are from a far and are not able to visit our store during this time, so I thought it might be fun to feature the tour on the blog this week! (more…)
